The Regent of Dagbon and the Acting President of the Dagbon Traditional Council, Kampakuya-Na Yakubu Andani has attributed the deadly clash between two ethnic groups at Nakpachie last week to lack of tolerance. One person was killed following report that a farmer had killed a pig belonging to someone from the other ethnic group. The Regent who was addressing the Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul and members of the Northern Regional a Security Council in his mother tongue Dagbani maintained a pig which does not cost GHC 200 should not be the reason for lives and property to be lost. The Yendi MCE brought the picture of the pig that was killed, that pig will not even cost GHC 200 and that pig could not have eaten the entire farm of maize but today, we have lost a life and property worth more than the animal killed. “Again, if the one who shot the pig had left the scene after the incident, I don’t think this would have happened but he stood after the act, and our tolerance levels as humans are not the same, if not, this isn’t an issue to fight over”. He called on his kinsmen and northerners to endeavour to send positive signals to the world. “A lot of people perceive us in the north to be war-mongers and, we also have good people amongst us so let’s be tolerant and send those positive signals as well”. The Kampakuya-Na also sent a strong warning to persons who have arrived in the Nakpachie community to cause mayhem to leave the community with immediate effect. “Myself and some chiefs have picked intelligence that some strangers have arrived in the Nakpachie community whose visit is purposely to foment trouble and I want them to leave immediately. I also urge REGSEC to investigate the information to prevent further confrontations”. The Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, was accompanied by the Chairman of the Northern Regional Security Council Salifu Saeed, and members of the Council, Member of Parliament of the Yendi Mohammed Tijani Habibu Constituency, the Member of Parliament of the Kpandai Constituency Mathew Nyindam, the Municipal Chief Executive of Yendi Alhaji Abubakar Yussif.
