Police in the Northern Region have arrested a Chinese national, Helena Huang for attempting to transport two 24-footer trucks loaded with four containers of rosewood from Tamale. The trucks, according to the Northern Regional Police Crime Officer, Otuo Acheampong, were intercepted at the Vitting Barrier Tuesday, May 7 by officers on duty. He further indicated that the suspect Helen Huang, 43, had no logging, salvaging nor lumber certificate when she was arrested. The trucks were impounded and transported to the regional headquarters of the Ghana Police Service. The suspect has been “granted a police enquiry bail and asked to report Wednesday, May 8 to assist in investigations,” the Northern Regional Police Public Relations, DSP Yussif Mohammed Tanko, said. DSP Tanko added that though the police could not immediately tell where the logs where being transported from, the suspect claimed ownership, stating that the trucks were heading to the Tema Port.
