Moslems in Ghana will begin this year’s 30 days of fasting and prayers from Monday, May 6. Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu announced the start of the holy month over the weekend. Ramadan is the ninth month on the Islamic calendar. It is observed to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Mohammed. Already, there have been well-wishes from some personalities. Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia announced on Sunday that he will be joining some Muslim communities throughout the period “to pray and break our fast together (iftar) and pray for Ghana”. He acknowledged how important the period is “as it is a time for reflection, forgiveness and thankfulness for Allah’s grace”. US Ambassador Stephanie Sullivan, at a recent meeting with the Chief Imam, wished the Muslim community Ramadan Kareem. Source: 3news.com|Ghana]]>
