Five persons have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service exactly a week after the gruesome gunning of the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Kwansah Hayford.

The five are being taken through lawful police  procedures, the police announced on Friday, October 16.

The lawmaker was killed by suspected armed robbers on his way back from a campaign trip to Abeadze Dominase.

He had visited the town barely hours after filing his nomination for re-election in the December 7 parliamentary elections.

But his vehicle was attacked at dawn on the Abeadze-Dominase-Mankessim road and he became the only casualty despite the robbers attacking between six and eight other vehicles.

The police had placed a GH¢20,000 bounty on the head of the robbers.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had also assured the family that the criminals will be fished out and arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.

The one-week memorial service for the late MP was held on Thursday, October 15 and in attendance was not only the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and key government officials but also former president John Dramani Mahama.

The late MP is expected to laid to rest on Saturday, November 28.
