Mion: Exploration of natural resources should benefit the people – Mion-Lana

The Paramount Chief of the Mion traditional area, Mion-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu, has described the management of the Ghana integrated Iron and Steel Development Cooperation (GIISDEC) as proactive, result oriented and transparent.

He said the decision by the new board chaired by the Member of Parliament for Yendi for Yendi Farouk Aliu Mahama to engage traditional authorities on how to harness the rich natural resources in the Sheini enclave is a step in the right direction.

“Let me applaud you for the efforts as a new board in advancing the iron ore investment with stakeholder engagement especially we the traditional authorities”

The Mion-Lana was hopeful that immediate steps will be taken by the board and management of GIISDEC to get investors whose activities will impact the people in the Sheini enclave including the Yendi area.

“I wish to plead with you my son Farouk and the management to ensure the proceeds of the exploration of the natural resources is used to better the living conditions of the people living in these areas,” he said.

The board chairman of GIISDEC Farouk Aliu Mahama responding to the appeals made by the Mion-Lana assured him of their commitment to unlocking the value of iron ore exploration to the people.

He said, the multi-million dollar natural resource deposit will provide thousands of direct and indirect jobs for the youth across the country.

“We are action oriented and share in the vision of President Akufo-Addo in job creation so be rest assured there will be more jobs for the youth”

In July this year, president Akufo-Addo on his two day tour of the Northern region while addressing a gathering of Chiefs and people of Dagbon at the Gbewaa palace announced the appointment of MP for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama as the board chairman for the Ghana integrated Iron and Steel Development Coperation GIISDEC.

According to the president, the appointment of the Yendi law maker was borne out of his hardwork and dedication to the development of Yendi and northern Region.

While eulogizing the late Prince Imoru Andani who served as board chair of GIISDEC until his demise, president Akufo-Addo said, the perfect replacement of the late Prince Imoru Andani was Farouk Aliu Mahama.
