Members of the opposition New Patriotic Party in Parliament will today deliver what it calls the ”true state of the nation address”.

This is to counter President John Dramani Mahama’s  constitutionally mandated address which he delivered on February 26 2015.

The minority members who remained unusually calm in their mostly black and red attires during the President’s delivery, told Parliament after the address that they were also going to deliver their “true state of the nation address” on Wednesday March 4.

But for reasons unknown, the counter address was rescheduled for Monday March 9.

Minority leader in Parliament Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said “the content of the President’s message will certainly be discussed but the true state of the nation has to be unveiled.”

He  indicated that his side was unimpressed with the President’s address because he made these same comments during the 2014 State of the Nation address.

“The President told us that we have been here before, last year he said the same things. We wanted to hear from the President that we were there before and we have put it behind us.”

The Minority Leader, who’s expected to deliver the address wants Ghanaians particularly the media to give ample coverage to the issues they would be raising since they would be of huge benefit to the country.

“There are various matters that as a nation they should concern us but we think the President didn’t articulate them sufficiently. For instance, for the first time in the history of this country, we are going to have a reviewed budget; this is because things have gone haywire just within two months  after we passed the Appropriations Act in respect of the 2015 budget. There are other matters in relation to the energy situation and the district assembly elections. These and other matters are those we will be addressing”.

“We expect Ghanaians and the media to be interested in these issues and carry it across. We cannot force people into it but we are going to give out what we believe is the true state of affairs”.
