Ministry of Procurement saved Ghana ȼ800m in 2017 – Adwoa Sarfo

Minister for Procurement – Sarah Adwoa Sarfo[/caption] The Minister of Procurement, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has disclosed her ministry has been able to save the national purse a total of ȼ800 million in 2017. She said the ministry’s success is due to the strict adherence to the laws of the country. “In 2017 alone, we were able to save this nation a whooping sum of 800 million Ghana Cedis through strict application of the procurement law in the use of single source and restrictive tendering as a method of procurement”, she said Thursday, June 21, in Accra. The ministry of procurement is one of the new ministries created by the Nana Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. Even though the ministry has come under public scrutiny and criticisms for what many have described as a duplication of work of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), the President has been defending his creation saying it does not to create a parallel public service. She also hinted on government’s plans to give a procurement quota to women, the young and persons with special needs. “As you know, we’re working on bringing out a 30% policy for companies owned by women, persons with disability and the youth”, she said. The Communication Minister, Ursula Owusu, also disclosed her ministry’s plans to come in handy to support the Public Procurement Authority go digital. “We are also assisting the Public Procurement Authority to digitize its operations end to end so that all contractors are registered with them before hand and they are on the website as well”, she said.
