The Executive Director of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, Dr Charles Nyaaba has observed that the high cost of production is a major issue for farmers in Ghana.

He said stakeholders have not seen major policy interventions by the government to reduce the cost of production.

Dr Nyaaba noted that at the moment farmers are struggling for input such as fertilizers hence, wants the government to take action on that.

Speaking on TV3 ahead of the mid-year budget presentation by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, on Monday, July 31, he told the government to “put in measures to improve local production.”

He added, “we haven’t seen any major intervention by the government to address the increasing cost of food production.”

“One of the issues we are lamenting is the high cost of production, he added.

The mid-year budget presentation is expected to highlight the $3billion programme by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other policies being taken by the government to tackle the economic challenges.
