The MD is accused of taking bribes or commissions in the award of contract for the procurement of 300 buses[/caption] The board of the Metro Mass Transit Limited has asked Managing Director Bennet Aboagye to proceed on leave with immediate effect as investigations begin over allegations against him. Mr Aboagye and his Personal Assistant Yiadom Kessie have come under fire as an employee of the transport company accused them of financial malfeasance. Staff, consequently, petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate Mr Aboagye and Mr Kessie. Though Mr Aboagye rejected the allegations, calling them “blackmail and extortion”, a statement issued by board chairman Ahmed Arthur asked him to go on leave in order to provide “an unfettered atmosphere” for investigations. An emergency board meeting is said to have been held on Monday at which the decision to interdict Mr Aboagye was taken. An investigative committee has also been set up to look into all the allegations. The MD will be given an opportunity by the committee to respond to the allegations, the meeting decided. “You are therefore requested to hand over your duties to the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations,” the statement concluded.
