Staff at the East Legon branch of Menzgold Ghana on Wednesday did not take kindly to the presence of journalists in front of the office following news about the firm’s shutdown. The journalists were there to ascertain the veracity of reports that gold-trading investment firm has been ordered to cease operations. Operations were running smoothly but number of customers kept swelling up at the office, 3news.com gathered. But staff of Menzgold turned the heat on the journalists who were prying around for more information. A journalist from Joy News was accosted for taking shots without permission. TV3’s Nana Akua Mensah-Aborampah, who was also stationed there, reported that the staff “actually harassed” the Multimedia reporter and took away her microphone as well as mobile phones. The journalist was asked to report inside the building for her gadgets. Menzgold Ghana has expressed condemnation at the deliberate “leak” of SEC’s letter, describing it as “an affront”. “This needless leak believed to be coming from the Securities and Exchange Commission is, to say the least, in very bad faith and distasteful; as it defeats our confidence in the body and an affront to cooperation. “We totally condemn it!” By Emmanuel Kwame Amoh|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
