The newly elected Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra region  Nii Boye Laryea has issued summoned letters to ‘recalcitrant’ residents and households for failing to partake in a sanitation exercise. His action is as a result of low turnout of residents the Assembly recorded during Saturday’s national sanitation exercise. The MCE together with the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North Fuseini Issah on August 4 led the national sanitation exercise programme which falls on the first Saturday of every month. They were shocked at the level of insanitary condition in the Assembly and the lackadaisical attitude of the people towards the exercise. Mr. Boye Laryea who has pledged to make the municipality the cleanest in the region told Onua FM after the exercise that sanctioning the recalcitrant residents will send a strong signal to everyone in the municipality not to exclude him or herself from such national exercises. The affected households were expected to report to the Assembly, he said, indicating that they would be prosecuted. Hygiene, according to him, is a priority and will do everything possible, and therefore  called on cooperate bodies, individuals and stakeholders to support his office to make Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly the cleanest in the capital.
