Parliament has approved the two nominees of President John Dramani Mahama to serve as Supreme Court justices.

President Mahama last month nominated Sole Commissioner of the Judgement Debt Commission, Justice Yaw Apau and lawyer Gabriel Pwamang to serve at the country’s highest court of jurisprudence.

During proceedings in the House on Thursday, June 25, Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa Constituency KT Hammond commended the two – Justice Apau and Mr Pwamang – and expressed agreement with most of the views of the former during his vetting.

But Mr Hammond was quick to raise concerns about Justice Apau’s  comments that he had to depend on the bar regarding some aspects of the law in pronouncing judgements.

MP for Wenchi Constituency  Yaw Gyan-Baffour praised Justice Apau, saying he cannot be influenced by any political party because, as he claims to have observed, he is principled.

Others also lauded the two, charging them to be champions of the bar. They were asked to give hope to the judiciary.
