The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has said former President John Dramani Mahama will not congratulate President Nana Addo Dankwa Addo for winning the 2020 elections.

He said the NDC we will not congratulate anybody who “murdered Ghanaians to secure power.”

President Akufo-Addo in a message on the Constitution Day on January 7, said three years after winning the 2020 elections, his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama was yet to congratulate him.

“On a lighter note. three (3) years on, I am still waiting for my main opponent in the 2020 elections to congratulate me on my victory,” President Akufo-Addo said.

But addressing the press on Monday, January 8, Mr Asiedu Nketia said “Ladies and gentlemen, Nana Akufo-Addo should rather be implementing the recommendation of inquiry which he himself set up that interrogated the actors and victims of the Ayawaso Wuogon by-election violence; and not be worried over congratulation from our flagbearer. We will not congratulate anybody who murdered Ghanaians to secure power, we will not.

Here is what Akufo-Addo said in his Constitution Day broadcast

“He must be called out to abandon his partisan commitment, which he has expressed publicly, that he’ll do whatever is in his power during the remaining time in office to hand over power to the NPP successor. He wants to choose this successor, not the people of Ghana in whom the sovereignty of Ghana resides; we are saying no way.”
