“If the health service was responsible and responsive to Ghanaians, many people won’t die in meningitis epidemics,” Dr Mahama stressed.
According to him, the country is at a point that no political party can boast of clinching a one-touch victory in elections.
Dr Mahama made this known in an interview with TV3’s Jonathan Adams on Friday, February 26.
It was in reaction to the address delivered on the floor of Parliament by President Mahama, who touted the infrastructure of the country in the past few years under his leadership.
The president stressed that Ghana’s road engineering is the top-most in West Africa.
But Dr Mahama had a contrary view.
“[Take] Eastern Corridor road, there were Chinese engineers on that road in 2012,” the four-time presidential candidate said.
“After the elections they abandoned it. I came by that road on 3rd February and after the [2016] elections they will stop.”
President Mahama had praised the health sector in his evidence-based address but Dr Mahama cited the spread of meningitis as evidence that all is not well.
“When it started we had about 43 and the Ministry of Health was saying that ‘oh we will contain it, we will contain it’. Now it is about a 100 people who have died. They didn’t respond.”
