Former President John Dramani Mahama cut short his campaign in the Central Region for a short while on Thursday, October 15 to join the family of the late Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Kwansah Hayford, in marking his one-week memorial service.

The service was held at Mankessim, where the MP’s family home is.

It attracted a lot of dignitaries including Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Former President Mahama, who is also the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed sympathies over the unfortunate incident and added his voice to calls for protection of MPs.

“Like I tweeted in my message, I think that in the meantime, we need to give some protection to our leaders like the MPs and provide them with some armed guards so that they can protect them while we work towards making the country safer for all of us.”

The family announced that the funeral for the late MP will be held on November 27-29, 2020.

“On the date of the funeral, we will be represented here to help in giving a fitting farewell to our friend and brother,” he assured.

“I did not now him personally but I have seen a few occasions and all of us feel sad that he lost his life in the way that he did.”
