Pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) has confirmed participation in Wednesday’s demonstration in the Eastern Region capital of Koforidua against the current voters’ register.

The demonstration will be held by another pressure group, Movement for Joint Action (MJA).

“Our decision to join the peaceful DEMONSTRATION in Koforidua is borne out of our undisputed belief that a new voters’ register for the 2016 general elections is necessary for the survival of Ghana’s democracy and peace,” a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20 said.

Signed by Ibrahim Agyei, a spokesperson of LMVCA, the statement added that getting a credible voters’ register is part of the process of elections.

“We, therefore, call on like-minded Ghanaians to join the Movement for Joint Action in Koforidua to demonstrate our resolve and peacefully make our concerns known to the Electoral Commission.”

An attempt by LMVCA last month to present a petition to the Chair of the Electoral Commission on the need for a new voters’ register was met with police resistance.

A court order later secured by the police barred the anti-government pressure group from embarking on any demonstration in September.
