Pastor Mensa Otabil[/caption] Embattled General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Pastor Mensa Otabil has told his congregation that a legal suit is neither an evidence nor judgement. According to him, when someone takes a legal action against another, there is a rigorous procedure which allows for defense. “A suit or when somebody sues you is not an evidence neither is it judgement. It is just somebody’s opinion and there will be defense,” he told his congregation on Tuesday. Pastor Mensa Otabil, the ICGC, and 13 shareholders and directors of the defunct Capital Bank Ghana Limited have been sued for allegedly engaging in acts that led to the collapse of the bank. The suit was filed at the Commercial Division of the Accra High Court by the receivers of the defunct bank, Vish Ashiagbor and Eric Nipah. The plaintiffs are seeking to use the legal action to recover over GH¢837 million being what they say were loans granted to the shareholders which remain unpaid. ‘God is good’ But Mr. Otabil said the suit is going to get interesting because it is more about facts than it is about opinions. “When you go to court, you are not just dealing with people’s opinion, but you are dealing with facts so it’s going to be interesting,” he noted He, however, maintained he could not explain anything further to the congregation because he is in court so “we will allow the process to continue”. He is hoping the whole truth will be known when they go through the litigation process. Mr. Otabil observed that people read meaning to everything he says, making reference to his infamous ‘God is Good’ sermon, which made headlines.
