The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) says some of their members who have been infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country have to be transferred due to stigmatization.

The Association said even though some of these Laboratory Scientists who tested positive have been completely recovered, the stigmatization from the communities has been unbearable.

Currently, there are 14 laboratory scientists have tested positive for COVID-19 and are under monitoring.

The affected members are  located in six regions: Volta, Ashanti, Greater Accra, Western, Eastern and Central Regions.

The Spokesperson for GAMLS, Dr. Dennis Adu-Gyasi, in an interview with Onua TV’s COVID-19 NKOMO which is jointly hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa and Adwoa Konadu-Yiadom on Wednesday explained that the stigmatization is affecting their work as laboratory scientists who are mandated to carry tests for victims of COVID-19 in the country.

He called on Ghanaians to stop stigmatizing patience of COVID-19 because it is also a normal disease which can affect any person.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gyasi wants government to, as a matter of urgency, to upgrade various laboratories in all the 16 regions.
