Koku Anyidoho fails to unseat Asiedu Nketia

Koku was seeking to unseat his boss who many have described as dictator[/caption] Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Koku Anyidoho has failed in his audacious bid to force his boss, Johnson Asiedu Nketia to hang his over 30 year-old political boots. Rather, Koku has lost his place in the national executive committee of the party and given the 62-year old  political magnate popularly referred to as General Mosquito, an early birthday and Christmas gift. For the over 9,000 delegates who gathered at the Ghana Trade Fair Centre in Accra to elect their national executives, Koku does not have wherewithal to rally the party for a resounding victory in the 2020 general elections which the party is desperate to snatch from the NPP. Provisional results from the polls put the two-time General Secretary in the lead with Koku Anyidoho trailing with a mere 1,625 votes of ballots cast. Mr. Asiedu Nketia however polled 6,644 of the total 8,299 votes to cruise to victory. There were seven rejected ballots. Who’s General Mosquito? For 13 years, he has been the General Secretary and led the party into wining two elections and lost one. He won the general secretaryship in 2005 by almost 80 per cent of the votes cast to become the third General Secretary of the party. He started his political career in 1989 when he was elected to represent Seikwa in the Brong Ahafo Region at the first Wenchi District Assembly. In 1992, he was elected to the Consultative Assembly which drafted Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and his performance at the assembly, according to the Daily Graphic, earned him the accolade “Heavy Weight”.
