Management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has decided to set up a committee to look into an alleged attack by one of its staff on a trader in the Central Business District (CBD).
The staff, identified as Bright Agyei, was captured in a video, which has since gone viral, assaulting a helpless trader at Mampong road, Adum.
Attempts by bystanders to restrain Bright Agyei, who is said to be with the erstwhile Community Protection Agency under the Youth Employment Agency, could not stop him from kicking the hawker mercilessly.
In a statement on Friday, September 16, KMA condemned the act.
“Management condemns that act and dissociates itself from such an unwarranted behaviour,” the statement signed by the the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Kwadwo Akuamoah Boateng, said.
“Meanwhile, management has taken a decision to set up a committee to look into the matter to enable us apply the appropriate sanctions.”
The victim has since been sent to the hospital for medical attention and information gathered by 3news.com indicates that she has been discharged.
“It is earnest to note that the Assembly do not support such conduct or behaviours since staff of the KMA are guided by the code of conduct of the service.”
