Minister of Finance Kenneth Ofori-Atta is scheduled to address a press conference at 1:00pm today, Sunday, May 9.

The press briefing is on the topic: ‘Rebuilding the Ghanaian Economy’.

This will be the first press briefing by Mr Ofori-Atta since being sworn in for a second-term.

He was taken ill prior to his vetting on Tuesday, February 16 and so had to be vetted later by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

A few days after his two-day vetting, he was approved by consensus and was sworn just a day afterwards.

His ill-health disabled him from presenting the 2021 budget statement, which was delivered to the House by Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is also Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Government Business.

Mr Ofori-Atta is expected to outline measures, most of which were contained in the budget, put in place by government to recover the economy from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The press briefing comes at a time a campaign has been waged on social media for the government to fix the failures in the country.

Dubbed #FixTheCountry, the campaigners essentially want the economy to be fixed.
