The relevance of positioning on the ballot for elections in Ghana has come up for discussion as the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has again picked the first position on the ballot for the NPP flagbearer contest on November 4, 2023.

This was the outcome of the New Patriotic Party’s balloting for the presidential aspirants held at the Party’s headquarters in Accra on September 13, 2023.

During the balloting for the Super Delegates Conference which took place on August 26, 2023, Mr Agyapong picked the same number one slot.

Speaking to Alfred Ocansey on TV3’s Ghana Tonight show, the spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong, Mr. Kwame Owusu noted that like other Ghanaians, they believe in the luck that comes with being number one.

“People believe in omen in our part of the world and is going to boost and give confidence to those grassroot people working for honorable and if nothing at all, it is positive.’’

This notwithstanding, he urged their supporters not to relent in the quest to win the November 4 poll.

“I will only caution that our people do not relent and just go out and jubilate and say, because we have picked one, we are going to be winners. I believe in hard work and all should go right now and start door to door and make sure that the dreams and the good things that honorable has for the country is achieved,’’ he said.

Meanwhile on the same program, a member of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Mr. Dennis Miracles Aboagye said the number two position does not mean much to them.

“We’ve never really been so much fixated on our position on the ballot and I think we made that point quiet clear during the super delegates and that continues to be our position,” he explained.

According to him, their preoccupation is to win the election on November 4, 2023.

“For us, our focus is to reach out to party executives. In this case, the polling station executives, the electoral area coordinators and then the regional and national executives who have vote, so that we could sell Dr. Muhamadu Bawumia’s message to them and get them to vote for us on the D-day,’’ Mr. Aboagye stressed.

He further asserted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is already known by all the delegates.

“Dr. Muhamadu Bawumia is one person everyone can recognize in the country, children, adults, old women, old men, young adults can find him. No matter where he finds himself on the ballot paper. And what is crucial is that we capture the minds and hearts of the voters and once we are able to capture their minds and the heart of the voter, they will find you on the ballot paper and vote for you,’’ the spokesperson stated.
