DCOP (rtd) Opare-Addo was ousted from office on Tuesday, May 11 by some seven men he claimed are members of the disbanded Delta Force vigilante group.
Narrating the incident when it happened, the immediate past Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator said he was manhandled by the men, who claimed to be National Security operatives, and handcuffed.
But answering a question on the matter on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, June 23, Mr Kan Dapaah said the right thing was done because DCOP (rtd) Opare-Addo had been served a letter of termination of his appointment.
He said acknowledging how delicate the office of a regional security liaison officer was in the scheme of the security situation in the country, DCOP (rtd) Opare-Addo should have quietly left office.
In refusing to leave, the National Security decided to get him out by changing the lock to his office.
However, he had brandished his side arm to the men who went to his office and had to be overpowered and handcuffed in the process.
“I don’t think there was anything improper with the decision that was taken to get him out by changing the locks to the office,” the National Security Minister said.
He noted that so far no official complaint has been lodged by the retired police officer-cum-lawyer contrary to threats that he would do so.
“Mr Speaker, I would want to assure the House of our willingness to investigate allegations should any official complaint be made by DCOP Opare-Addo.”
