Kabral Blay-Amihere & NMC honoured as ‘Peacemakers’

The National Media Commission and its chairman, Kabral Blay-Amihere, have been honoured for their management of the country’s media that has ensured professionalism, peace and stability over the years.

The Commission was particularly applauded for its supervisory role in shaping the country’s media landscape by putting in place the necessary structures which has over the years guided the media in ensuring high standards and peace, especially during the election 2012 election petition verdict.

The Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council of Ghana has consequently conferred on them the title “Champion of Peace” as part of its campaign to honour key institutions and individuals for their contribution in ensuring peace before, during and after the 2012 elections and the subsequent election petition judgement.

Dubbed: “Blessed are the peacemakers,” the campaign also seeks to encourage the various institutions and individuals to continue with their peace crusade as Ghana goes to the polls next year to elect a president and parliamentarians.
Both Mr Blay-Amihere and the Commission were given a citation, plague, Holy Bible and Holy Quran.

“Your Excellency’s distinguished and celebrated rewarding career over the years is indeed a worthy inheritance for generations to come. Your Excellency has by your priceless deeds and works promoted and written the name of Ghana in the hearts and minds of us all,” the citation for Mr Blay-Amihere read in part

The citation for the Commission noted that during Supreme Court verdict on the 2012 election petition, “The National Media Commission proved to all Ghanaians that it is more than capable of managing the literature and language of communication in a way that protected, maintained and projected the peace which has characterised our beloved nation”.

Prophet Nakoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson, Leader of the Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council lauded the Commission’s strategy of the Commission regarding the country’s media which ensured professionalism during the nine-month election petition hearing.

“This truly, is worth applauding. We are confident that you will keep the good works in the service to mother Ghana,” he said, adding that the Commission not only make peace but defused the tension at the height of the election petition hearing.

He said as prophets and spiritual churches, they would continue to pray for the nation to enjoy peace, saying “we will never cease to pray for the peace and development of the country”.

Receiving the recognition, Mr Blay-Amihere thanked the Prophets and Spiritual Churches for the gesture which he said they least expected considering that they always did their work in the name of national interest without expecting such recognition

He assured that the Commission would ensure the highest professionalism in the media industry since that would go a long way to ensure peace and nation building, adding “we’ve made it our core duty to ensure Ghana remain united and peaceful and that was manifested during the elections”.

Mr Blay-Amihere said their collaboration with key institutions like the Ghana Police, the National Security and the National Communication Authority ensured a stable country at the high point of the 2012 election petition.

“When the nation hit a crossroad, we waited on the side of peace as against violence,” he said, noting it is the collective efforts built on consensus that helped the commission to ensure high standards in the media’s work.

He assured Ghanaians of the Commission’s preparedness to improve its performance, especially as Ghana prepares for its next elections in 2016, adding “Ghana remains our only country so all of us have a civil duty to ensure the country remains an icon of peace.
