Members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) have deserted some court premises following a strike to press home demands for a review in their salaries.
As at 8:30am when 3news’ Esi Benewa Otoo visited the Accra Circuit Court, staff members had not reported to work and there was a notice directing all staff to lay down tools and not to work until further notice.
The main doors to the court room were locked with lawyers standing outside.
Persons whose cases were scheduled to be heard today, November 13 have been locked out as well with no notice as to when their cases will be attended to.
In the notice to its members, JUSAG directed they wear arm bands and hoist red flags at the court premises.
Although the National Labour Commission (NCL) has said the strike by JUSAG is illegal, the association remained adamant and has gone ahead to lay down tools.
According to the Commission, JUSAG’s decision to embark on the strike contravenes Section 161 of Act 651.
As a result, the Commission says the striking staff stands the chance of losing their salaries if they refuse to work.
The strike as has been declared by JUSAG is indefinite as the association says it would only resume work if their demands are met.
