Former President of Ghana John Agyekum Kufuor says an NPP victory in the upcoming general elections would be the best way to honour former party chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey.

The former Chairman and Minister under Kufuor’s regime died in the early hours of Sunday in a London hospital.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on 3FM’s flagship program Sunrise hosted by Winston Amoah, the former President described Jake as a true professional and a gentle politician.

“Jake personifies the Danquah Busia tradition and I will say we should reconcile within the party, unite so strongly that we perform excellently at the forthcoming elections which we must win to accord Jake the honors.”

He also paid glowing tribute to Jake and described him as a professional and a gentle politician who respected the tenets of the Danquah Busia Tradition.

“He was a good public relations person who never raised his voice at anyone.

“After campaigning with me, you know as my campaign chairman in 2008 or so when he became chairman, I had the occasion to tell people that he was born into the tradition, the Danquah Busia tradition.

“You know the father was one of the big six. Jake respected human rights and respected the rule of law and all these things that make up the Danquah Busia tradition Jake respected.”

Mr Obetsebi Lamptey served in various ministerial positions during the Kufour administration and led the NPP in the 2012 general elections as chairman of the party.
