A fresh injunction suit has been filed at the Fast Track High Court stopping national broadcaster Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from collecting television license fees.

This follows an earlier suit filed by Dr Yves Wereko-Brobby seeking clarifications on the exercise, which was scheduled to start August 1.

But Director General of GBC Major (rtd) Albert Don Chebe on Friday, July 31 announced the intention of his outfit to collect the fees despite Dr Wereko-Brobby’s suit.

A fresh injunction suit was, therefore, sought by lawyers of the former presidential candidate on Friday to stop the exercise from taking off.

The Fast Track High Court has, therefore, set Monday, August 10 to hear the fresh case.

Until then, GBC cannot collect any fees, lawyers of Dr Wereko-Brobby said.

GBC is expected to receive 72 per cent of proceeds from the collections with Media Development and Film funds among other beneficiaries.
