President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has taken a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama after the much-anticipated Elmina Fishing Harbour was commissioned on Friday, May 26.

President Akufo-Addo said he was very much happy that Mr Mahama and, indeed, other naysayers are all alive to see the project commissioned.

“I thank the people of Elmina for trusting the Akufo-Addo government to deliver this project which sod I cut on 20th of August, 2020,” he told a gathering during the ceremony to commission the project.

“I thank you for not listening to the naysayers.

“I remember that after the sod-cutting, the former President John Dramani Mahama, the perennial NDC Presidential Candidate, came to Elmina four months later in December and described the fishing harbour as ‘Sakawa Fishing Harbour.'”

President Akufo-Addo told the gathering how the former President had been emphatic that the project would not materialise.

“It is just as well that he is not God and I am equally happy that he together with all naysayers are alive today to see President Akufo-Addo commission the Elmina Fishing Port.”

The Paramount Chief of the Elmina Traditional Area, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, commended President Akufo-Addo and his government for the construction of the harbour for the people of Elmina.

He appealed to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) under the Ministry of Transport to consider naming the project ‘Nana Addo Elmina Fishing Harbour’.
