The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Dramani Mahama, is worried about the possible negative impact of armed robbery on his plan to implement a 24-hour economy.

To that end, he has promised to establish a joint Military-Police anti-armed robbery squad to fight the robbery menace.

Also, he has promised to establish military barracks in all the six newly created regions.

The regions are the North East, Savannah, Oti, Western North, Ahafo, and Bono East regions.

Mr Mahama said that the purpose of the barracks in all these regions is to ensure the presence of the Ghana Armed Forces in all the regions.

“All the six new regions are going to have military barracks so that the Ghana Army will be present in all the regions,” He said when interacting with the Chiefs and people of Gambaga in the North East region.

“We are going to form joint military and police anti-armed robbery squads and one of those squads will be here in the North East to fight armed robbery because we want you to have peace and security to be able to go about your duties and we know that our 24-hour economic policy cannot work unless there is security and safety for everybody,” he said.
