I’ll beat Mahama hands down – Ken Agyapong

Flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has said he will defeat the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) former president John Dramani Mahama if he is elected.

The Assin Central lawmaker said that Ghanaians are looking for an honest and bold leader, qualities he said he possesses.

“I will beat Mahama hands down, no doubt about it. everywhere what Ghanaians are expecting is an honest and bold leader,” he told journalists after casting his ballot in the ongoing flagbearer elections of the NPP on Saturday, November 4.

The much-awaited election of a flagbearer for the governing NPP is currently under way at 277 polling centres across the country.

Over 200,000 delegates are expected to vote in the exercise which is expected to end at 3:00pm.

The contestants are; Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh.

One of the front runners, Kennedy Agyapong who is said to have voted early, says he is ready to support who ever will emerge winner of the poll.

He made this known shortly after casting his ballot at the Pentecost Worship Center at Assin Fosu.

“I have psyched myself for whatever the outcome will be. Even if I lose, I will still support the winner to break the 8,” he assured.

Earlier on November 2, 2023, the four candidates were made to sign an undertaking not to leave the party if the outcome of the November 4 poll does not favour them.

They signed the memorandum of understanding at a meeting with the National Council of Elders in Accra.

“We were able to get all the four aspirants to sign an undertaking and in summary, they are to accept the primary results, and promote peace and cohesion,” the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah told reporters.

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also voted at the Party’s headquarters in Accra.
