IHRC Africa Ambassador congratulates CHRAJ on 30th anniversary

IHRC Africa Ambassador-At-Large for Africa, H.E. Abu Zein, has extended his congratulations to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on their 30th anniversary.

In a statement, Ambassador Abu Zein praised CHRAJ for their exceptional commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in Ghana.

He acknowledged the significant role played by CHRAJ as a National Human Rights Institution in upholding the universal human rights and freedoms outlined in the 1992 Constitution, encompassing civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.

Ambassador Abu Zein emphasized that CHRAJ has diligently fulfilled its constitutional obligations over the years through the promotion, prevention, protection, and enforcement of human rights.

Ambassador Abu Zein commended the remarkable contributions of CHRAJ’s human rights frameworks and mechanisms, under the leadership of Commissioner Mr. Joseph Whittal, in advancing respect for human rights within Ghanaian society. He acknowledged their efforts in public education, awareness creation, research, monitoring, and complaints reporting.

The Ambassador also applauded Commissioner Whittal’s leadership style and the Commission’s unwavering support in promoting and protecting human rights, ensuring transparency and accountability in public service delivery.

Referring to CHRAJ’s commitment to international human rights standards, Ambassador Abu Zein highlighted their status as signatories to various treaties and resolutions, including the Paris Principles, which provide guidelines for National Human Rights Institutions. He commended CHRAJ for their dedication in striving to achieve the goals outlined in these agreements, describing it as commendable and worthy of emulation.

As an international intergovernmental organization, IHRC Africa pledged its steadfast support to CHRAJ and expressed its willingness to mobilize resources and provide the necessary funding support within its jurisdiction. This commitment aims to enable CHRAJ to effectively fulfil its constitutional mandate in promoting and protecting human rights in Ghana.
