The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) has intensified its awareness creation to reduce stigma associated with mental disorders.

The Church has adopted the Psychiatry ward of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to extend regular support for improved mental health care.

At its 2024 regional ‘Life Walk’ event in Kumasi, the Psychiatric Association of Ghana (PAG) joined the church to walk for 12-kilometre to promote healthy living and mental health.

The annual event combines health, fitness, charity and evangelism.

The Ashanti Regional Women Ministry donated to the Psychiatry Unit of KATH as part of ICGC’s commitment to supporting mental health care.

Organizing Secretary of thr Psychiatric Association of Ghana, Dr Bernard Ogundipe appreciated the support the Church gives to the advancement of mental health in Ghana.

“As we are aware, good mental health is a state whereby we are able to cope with the stress of daily living, achieve our potential or capabilities, work and learn well and be able to contribute to our community.

Anything that hinders us from achieving the above can be as a result of a poor mental health, including depression, anxiety etc. It is therefore commendable for ICGC to continue supporting and advocating the need to reduce stigma and seek help with a mental health professional”, Dr Ogundipe said.

Regional Overseer of Ashanti Region of ICGC, Reverend Sylvanus Odotei expressed his gratitude to all participants and touched on the need to support a charitable cause.

“It’s good to continue making fitness a part of us. Mental health is a basic human right and it is important we support the cuase”

The 2024 Life Walk forms part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of ICGC.
