Daniel Asiedu told an Accra Magistrate Court Tuesday morning when he was arraigned on a murder charge that he had gone to the MPs residence at Shiashie in Accra to only to steal but ended up killing him.
The Police arrested Asiedu last Thursday from his hideout at Agbogbloshie in Accra as the prime suspect in the murder of the 52-year old JB Danquah Adu on February 9.
On Tuesday, the court heard that the MP who was sleeping woke up to find the accused person ransacking his bedroom so held him, but in an attempt to escape, the accused stabbed the MP.
According to prosecutors, Asiedu stabbed the deceased on the right chest above the breast before pulling the knife through the MPs hands creating “a deep cut in his palm”
Although the MP fell by his bed helpless, prosecutors told the court that the accused “stabbed him again on the right chest below the breast” as he bled to death.
The accused “realising that the deceased was almost dead, left him and took away his two iPhones and a tablet” before escaping through the back of the house, the court heard.
Onua FM’s correspondent, Lydia Ezit, reported that Asiedu appeared in court without a lawyer, and sought to explain his motive for breaking into the late MPs home as he stood in the dock.
He was, however, prevented by the Presiding Magistrate, Stephen Owusu, who made it clear to him that his court was not the proper forum to try the case, and that his job is only to commit him [accused] for trial at a High Court.
The case has thus been adjourned to March 1.
