Some health facilities in Koroboland of the Eastern Region have stopped working due to a cut in supply of electricity to the area.

Apart from this, those who are working have started rationing their generators due to the high cost of fuel.

The Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Director, Mrs. Irina Offei, made these revelations on 3FM’s Sunrise hosted by Alfred Ocansey on Friday, August 12, 2022.

“I don’t have the cumulative figure but on average…a facility spends GHȻ1,000 to GHȻ3,000 for 24-hour services so we have reduced the use of generators.”

She explained that “this has also affected the number of services we render to patients because we are rationing the use of the generator”.

“If we have an emergency, the generator will be used. From 6am to 3pm…it will be on…then go off and then come on around 7pm. Some of the hospitals have stopped admissions but those that are running, when there is an emergency, we stabilize the person and then transfer him or her to facilities with electricity,” she explained.

Mrs. Offei noted that “it’s been 18 days now since the incident occurred and as of this morning we have not had electricity even though from the news and from the social media…we have heard there has been a meeting and agreement has been reached to restore power”.
