A family of five was Wednesday morning found dead in their room at Yakyeremakro, a suburb of Koforidua, in what residents suspect to be an acid attack.

The skin of the five – a couple and their three children- was ripped-off in the chilling incident which has left the residents in the area in a shock, our Eastern Regional correspondent, Yvonne Neequaye has reported.

Their names have been given as Kwesi Asare, a transport operator believed to be in his 50s, his 45-year old wife second hand-clothe dealer, Jane, and their children- 15-yearl old Ellen Asare, Edmund Asare, seven, and Oheneba Asare, four years old.

It is unclear who might have caused the attack on the family but neighbours say the man who returned from Italy three months ago, had a quarrel with the wife but elders within their family resolved the issue.

The Police homicide have since removed the bodies from the crime scene and are being conveyed to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy. The New Juabeng Police declined to comment on the incident until it is through with its investigations.

The body of the family was discovered at about 6:00am Wednesday by someone who was passing-by the window of the couple. Our sources say the person realised the mosquito net on covering one of the windows to their rented chamber-and-a-hall room was burnt, thus raising suspicion. The louvre-blade window had no louvres except a metal mesh and iron rod railing covered with a curtain.

The person was said to have peeped through only to find see the lifeless body of the woman, which he quickly rushed to the compound house to inform them. The landlord, Comfort Boateng, and neighbours forced the door opened.

“We found the whole family dead,” Madam Boateng told TV3‘s Yvonne Neequaye, and said they consequently called in the Police which came for the bodies. The incident attracted scores of people to the house.
