“The party would have to sit down and look at the particular situation that exists at that time and make a determination in terms of what is in the best interest of the party,” Mr Greenstreet stated in an exclusive interview on TV3’s New Day on Monday, February 1.
The private legal practitioner was on Saturday elected CPP’s flagbearer at a congress held at the International Trade Fair Center in Accra.
He beat competition from three others including former party chairperson Samia Yaba Nkrumah to emerge victorious.
Pundits have pointed to his election as likely to force this year’s elections into a runoff, especially if all the Nkrumahists join forces.
Speaking to TV3’s Bridget Otoo and Martin Asiedu-Dartey at his residence in Accra, the former CPP General Secretary expressed concern at the current state of the country.
“It is clear that something is not quite right in the country in terms of how we utilize our resources and how our resources don’t seem to be getting benefits to the people and increasing opportunities.”
He cited poverty in the mining areas as a clear example.
“If you go around you will see the extent of the damage the galamsey is doing to our rivers and to communities around.”
