Great Olympics record historic win over Hearts of Oak in 'Mantse Derby'

Accra Great Olympics on Saturday recorded their first win over Accra Hearts Oak in 17 years thanks to their heroics of their captain Gladson Awako.

The game lived up to it derby credentials as expected.

Kosta Papic made three changes to the side that drew goaless at Berekum a week ago; Manaf Umar, Patrick Razak and Emmanuel Nettey were all handed starts.

Olympics made the most out of the chances they created in the first half to score two goals.

The first of the two goals was scored by Awako who curled home a freekick from the peripherals of the Hearts of Oak 18-yard box.

Maxwell Abbey doubled the lead minutes later after he was set up by Samuel Quaye, sending in a shot to beat Richmond Ayi.

After conceding two goals in the first 17 minutes, Hearts of Oak were unsettled throughout the first half.

The Phobians came in much stronger in the second half and created chances with Patrick Razak and in-form attacker Victor Kweku Aidoo coming close to score on some occasions.

Olympics goalkeeper, Saeed Salifu’s greatness came to play as he made sumptuous saves to ensure the Wonder Boys go home as the proper land owners of Accra.

Saeed was named best player of the game.

The win takes Olympics to the third possition leaving Hearts of Oak at the 6th with the possibility of dropping further after the rest of the week 11 games.

Elsewhere at the Nana Ameyaw Park, King Faisal added more salt to Berekum Chelsea’s wounds when they pulled one of the best comebacks this season in a 4-3 goal encounter. King Faisal’s Kwame Peprah scored a hatrick.

Chelsea are yet to pick a win in their last three games and have conceded 8 goals in their last two away games.
