GPRTU to sensitize public ahead of fare increment

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has served notice to sensitize the general public ahead of its plan to increase transport fares.

Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Alhaji Abass Imoro told Alfred Ocansey on the Sunrise show on 3FM Monday June 13 that they do not want to surprise the people hence the sensitization.

“We are sensitizing the general public ahead of the increment in transport fares. We don’t want people to be surprised when it increases,” he said.

H e further indicated that transport fares will drop along with decrease in furl prices.

“When the fuel prices decreases we will happily decrease transport fares too. We will not hesitate at all,” he added.

Recently, Members of another driver union, the the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana increased transport fares by 20 per cent.

They cited the high cost of fuel in the country as the main reason for this increment.

Public Relations Officer of the Association, David Agboado said on the mid day news on TV3 Saturday May 7 that “We have started these new fares this morning,” he said.
