Gov’t pays GH¢ 501,500 to 4 hospitals to cater for flood/fire victims

Government has paid  GH¢501,500 to four hospitals in Accra to cover the cost of medical treatment of victims of the June 3 flood and fire disaster.

The payment is in fulfillment of a pledge by President John Dramani Mahama after the floods and fire disaster that claimed 152 lives and left many hospitalized and displaced.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by the Deputy Minister for Health Dr. Victor Bampoe, said the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has received GH¢98,800 whiles the 37 Military Hospital has received GH¢306,600.

The Ridge Hospital and the Ghana Police Hospital have also received GH¢60,200 and GH¢35,900 respectively.

It added the payment of the initial medical bills was arrived at after consultation with medical experts in the four hospitals where victims are receiving treatment.

President Mahama has also ordered the use of DNA samples to identify deceased persons whose families have not been able to identify them.

The cost is expected to be borne by government.
