A Security Analyst, Dr Adam Bonaa has told the Police Officers who have sued over the failure to promote them to go beyond the paper qualification and demonstrate compelling reasons why they should be promoted.

In his view, promotion should not just be based on classroom qualification.

“As a people, we should be gearing towards meritorious, where you are promoted based on merit, show why you should be promoted apart from the paper qualification,” he said on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Thursday, May 18.

He added “I think that promotions should not just be based on paper qualification. It is something that elsewhere it is not done, elsewhere promotions are just not based on paper qualification, it is the reasons you will find people with Masters Degree driving taxis, people with Masters Degree actually working as security guards.”

His comments come after the Attorney General, the Ghana Police Service and the Inspector General of Police have been sued by some eighty-Two (82) police officers over failure to promote them despite being due after completing their studies.

“All the Plaintiffs applied for the 2017/2018 Academic Year Study Leave with pay programme for Tertiary Courses ranging between two (2) to four (4) years.

“Each and every Plaintiff having qualified were selected and made to enter into the requisite Bond to serve the Police Service upon completion of their various courses for at least Five (5) years upon condition that the Bond would be entreated when breached.”
