The Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, Dr. Ben K.D Asante, at the company’s headquarters in Accra.

The GJA is seeking to partner in various activities in order to drive home strong business environment.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between Ghana Gas and Ghana Journalists Association and to introduce the newly elected executives to their key stakeholders.

The President of the Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, was of the view that it was appropriate as new executives of the association to call on their sponsors, recognize their presence and to seek their support for the renovation of GJA’s headoffice.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour thanked Ghana Gas for the immense support, especially, towards their awards ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2022.

“We want to thank Ghana Gas for the continuous support towards the GJA in the areas of awards in the past and we want to take this opportunity to urge you to do more, especially looking at the current economic situation we facing,” he indicated.

Thr GJA President assured that the executives will do the needful by engaging Ghana Gas as key stakeholders and to explore opportunities for mutual benefit.

Again, he said they will share the Association’s visions and promises with key stakeholders and see how the Company can support and assist them to achieve such a worthy course.

“The GJA wants to commend Ghana Gas for the good job done and your core mandate as a company so far in the country,” he added.

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour again believes Ghana Gas is among the few state institutions that have not come into public ridicule and that is a good image for the Gas company.

“With your able corporate team, Ghana Gas is doing well in this country. We have seen that under the tremendous leadership of Dr. Ben Asante, the good work Ghana Gas is doing at the Western Region by building the biggest trauma center.

“We want to trade from your roles of corporate social responsibilities, the GJA is aware of the number of projects undertaken by your institution. Recently we saw your outfit donating to the victims of Appiatse and others.”

The GJA President underscored Ghana Gas’s commitment to assist and provide assistance to the communities and individuals.

“We believe that the GJA is a major stakeholder and therefore if Ghana Gas is discharging its corporate social responsibilities, we believe that the Gas Company should consider the GJA and the media through which the good works that the company is doing is made known to the public.

“The GJA is looking at capacity building through training workshops. Again, we know that, Ghana Gas helps to give scholarship to brilliant but needy individuals and people, and the GJA is appealing for such assistance.

“We appeal to you that journalism, in order to eradicate the yellow journalism or even reduce it, we need education in special areas like the energy sector and also collaborating with Ghana Gas to build the capacity of journalism in this country in areas of the energy sector.

“One of our main visits to this organization is to reposition and rebrand our Association to transform the practice of journalism in the country and to establish or develop a strengthened public sector collaboration.”

Dr. Ben K D.  Asante, on his part, was of the view that Ghana Gas wants to strengthen the educational aid, particularly the energy sector in general and that the gas company was willing to give two scholarships that will support members that GJA chooses.

The Chief Executive Officer made it known to the GJA executives that that offer still stands.

“That offer still stands, you bring us two people and we will support them in the formal sector and also the informal sector where we would provide some workshops to those who are willing and are able to listen to us. Again in the energy sector and the Gas sector, we’re willing to do that as well. The formal one which we will pay for and the informal one which we would deliver.”

Dr. Ben Asante assured the GJA that the Gas Company will support them in their upcoming November awards, popularly known as the GJA Awards.

“We also want to partner the GJA as you go around the country, and you see areas where our corporate social responsibility projects are needed whether in terms of education, health, sports, water and sanitation, school buildings, schools under trees and so on, we want to partner with you to assist them.

“When you go to Korle-Bu hospital, children and other people who cannot afford to pay their hospital bills with so many issues we just want to encourage them not just pay for their bills at large. That is the company’s corporate social responsibilities we do.”

The Chief Executive Officer pointed out Ghana Gas’s vision to provide services to the nation in the areas of providing gas for power generation.

“Now you see that the lights are on and we don’t really have any power outage incidents in recent times. It is because the fuel supply which in times past we use to rely solely on Nigeria now we handle about 80% of the power generation in the country.

“It is quite significant and a very sensitive area. We provide the feed stock for power generation, so gas is burnt as heat and the heat is converted from that heat energy to electrical energy by VRA and the IPPs. That is what we do, so we’re the first gates for the power generation chain and we’re proud of the work and intends to improve where we have fallen short,” he said.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Gas Company, what the company expects from the Ghana Journalists Association is its accurate reportage on issues.

He assured the GJA that Ghana Gas will always be available to support the them in areas of their choice.

Ghana National Gas representatives at the meeting were the Head of Corporate Communications Ernest Owusu Bempah, Assistant Manager for Corporate Communications Nana Pokuah Addo, Gerrard Kyei-Fobi, Thomas Yaw Aninagyei Kani, both of Corporate Communications and Romeo Oduro and Harry Aboag, who serve in the Office fice of the CEO.
