The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC), Selasi Koffi Ackom, has been in Namibia for the 2nd Discover Namibia Intra Africa Trade and Expo Conference.

Mr Koffi Ackom attended the Conference, his second, at the invitation of the Africa Economic Leadership Council (AELC).

While in Namibia, GITFiC’s CEO was welcomed and received at the State House by Ambassador Claudia Grace Uushona, the Executive Director to President Gottfried Geingob, and Daisry Mathias OBAL, the Presidential Advisor on Youth Matters & Enterprise Development.

Discussions centered around the sensitisation and education of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Namibia and how the business community and education structures of Namibia can benefit from the content of the book authored by GITFiC.

A copy of the book was presented to Ambassador Uushona to be given to President Geingob.

The official communique and action plans after the 7th GITFiC held at the Royal Senchi on Africa’s prospects for a single currency was equally submitted to the Presidency.

Mr Koffi Ackom was informed that the Namibian Investment Promotion and Development Board have been directed to purchase copies.

Ghana-Namibia trade relations also came up.

He had earlier met Namibia’s Central Bank Governor on mutual discussions.

The discussions centered on the Pan African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), assurances and acceptability rate, Namibia and SADCs economies post-Covid and if Namibia was also going to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for debt restructuring and Policy Credibility.

Reference was made to the 5th Conference, which brought to Accra, the commercial capital of Africa, multilateral and national Central Banks, Governors and state actors to seek their views on the PAPSS and possible refusal or delay triggers. This conference was partnered by the Bank of Africa and opened by President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was ably represented by his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Copies of GITFiC’s book on AfCFTA were also given to the Governor of the Namibia Central Bank.

While this meeting was facilitated by the Namibia High Commission in Ghana, the visit to the State House was facilitated by AELC under the distinguished leadership of Councillor Hafeni Heinrich Heinrich Hafeni.
