The Ghana National Fire Service is urging Ghanaians to install smoke alarms and early warning systems at homes and public places to reduce domestic fires.

The Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFO Henry Giwah, said this has become necessary due to the increasing domestic fires in the Ashanti Region.

He pointed out that “once we reduce domestic fires, the battle is won”.

ACFO Henry Giwah stated that about 99 percent of fire outbreaks were domestic and pointed out that the situation calls for creative ways to address the issue.

He also appealed to Ghanaians to obtain home fire safety certificate and acquire fire extinguishers to protect live and properties during fire outbreaks.

According to him, it is important for Ghanaians to make exit plans and emergency movements easy during fire outbreaks.

He pointed out that fire safety is a shared responsibility and called on the public to welcome the home safety project, aimed at reducing domestic fires.
