Ghanaian Director Blitz Bazawule unveils captivating first trailer for ‘The Colour Purple’

The Colour Purple, an upcoming American musical historical drama film made by Ghanaian singer-songwriter and director Samuel Bazawule, well known by his stage as Blitz Bazawule, has debuted its first trailer.

The film was adapted from a script by Marcus Gadley, which was based on an Alice Walker novel that was published in 1982 and a theatrical musical of the same name.

After helming Beyonce’s Black is King and The Burial of Kojo, the Ghanaian director has now completed his third full-length motion picture.

The Colour Purple is a novel about the enduring challenges of an African American lady in the early 1900s southern United States.

Among other well-known actors, it features Taraji P. Henson, Halle Bailey, Fantasia, H.E.R., Aunjanue Ellis, Colman Domingo, and Ciara.

Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, Quincy Jones, and Oprah Winfrey all worked together to produce the film.

This year’s Christmas Day is scheduled for its release.
