Ghana will be a fully functional digital economy beginning 2021 – Bawumia

The government is going to roll out the Universal Quick Response (QR) Code payment system and that will make Ghana a functional digital economy beginning 2021, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has said.

He explained that early next year, integration will take place between Ghana Card and Social Security card, Passport, Tax Identification Number (TIN), Bank Account, SIM card, DVLA and together with the mobile payments.

In a tweet, Dr Bawumia said, “Early in 2021, integration will take place between Ghana Card and SSNIT Card, Passport, Tax Identification Number, Bank Account, SIM card, DVLA and together with the mobile payments and roll out of the Universal QR Code payment system, will make Ghana a functional digital economy.”

Regarding the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), he said “I launched the latest of Government’s digitisation efforts on Monday, November 9, 2020, which allows the integration of the National Health Insurance Card with the Ghana Card.

“I congratulated the Board and Management of the National Health Insurance Authority and charged them to deepen and widen the inclusiveness of the National Health Insurance System to make it possible for Ghanaians everywhere to have access and make renewals as easy as possible.”
