The Beverage Consumers & Bar Owners Association of Ghana, also popularly known as the Ghana Drunkards Association, is embarking on a three-day tour of the Western Region over “recent reports of alcohol-related incidents”.

According to the Association, it wants to meet its members in the Region “to help bring sanity in the consumption of beverages in the region”.

In a press release on Wednesday, February 8, the Ghana Drunkards Association mentioned the bursting of a young man’s tummy after alcohol consumption, the murder perpetrated by a drunkard, the death of a young man during a drinking competition and lately the handcuffing of a customer by a police officer, who owns a drinking bar, as some of the worrying incidents involving its members.

“These and other reports coming from the Western Region has drawn the attention of the National leadership of the association hence the need for the executives to visit the region to educate members on responsible and safe drinking to help curb alcohol abuse in the region.”

On the latest incident, the Association called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo-Dampare, to invite the officer and mete out the “proper interrogation and sanctions”.

The tour will be climaxed on Thursday, February 23 at two major drinking spots in the Region, according to the press release.

We also like to use this medium to call on the security service, distillers, distributors, Regional Minister and all stake holders to support our awareness in the region.”
