Team MTN receiving the award[/caption] Telecommunication giant MTN Ghana Limted has been adjudged the best and the largest company in Ghana for 2017 at the 17th Ghana Club 100 Awards. The company, operated by Scancom Ghana Limited, was also recognised for being the highest taxpayer company in the country for the year 2017. MTN entered the Ghanaian market in2006 following the acquisition of Investcom and has since a market leader in the telecom local market with over 12 million subscribers across the 10 regions. Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) emerged the second best company and the third largest company in Ghana in the awards. The third best place was taken by the mining company Gold Fields Ghana Limited, which also emerged the second largest company in the country at the awards held in Accra last Friday at the Kempinski Hotel. Yeslie Ice, a food and drink company based in Takoradi that was established only two years ago emerged the Company of the Future. It secured 568 out of the 1,200 votes. The Ghana Club 100 (GC100) awards is an annual compilation of the top 100 companies in Ghana to give due recognition to successful enterprise building. Launched by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in 1998, the GC 100 serves as a benchmark to corporate excellence. Deputy finance minister Kwaku Kwarteng who gave the keynote address said the Akufo-Addo government has since assumption of office in January 7, 2017 stabilised the micro economy and restored policy credibility they will continue to protect over the medium term. He said the government will also build the institutional and legislative anchor to ensure these gains made so far are not eroded. “…Government has worked to address some of the endemic challenges faced by the private sector prior to 2017,” he stated, He mentioned a reduction in the unit price of industrial electricity consumption, abolishing of nuisance taxes and lowering the interest rate compare to the past years as some of the steps the government took to improving the environment for private sector to thrive. Chief Executive officer GIPC, Yofi Grant, encouraged all the awardees to take advantage of their new status obtained through the awards, to do more in the coming years.
