In separate interviews with the Daily Graphic, the executive members said they were of the view that Dr Sakara had the vision and fortitude of Kwame Nkrumah and was the best candidate to move Ghana forward.
They are Kwame Abankwah, Chairman; Agyenim Boateng, General Secretary; Randy Sarfo Jnr, Communications Director; Adu Asabre, National Youth Organiser; Juliet Aisha Mamoud, National Women’s Organiser; Rama Mamoud Zinabu, National Treasurer; Joseph Boadi, Campaign Manager and Alex Ababio, Press Secretary.
They said the decision of the Founder of the party, Madam Akua Donkor, to join forces with Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom’s Progressive People’s Party (PPP) was unilateral and did not have the support of the executive, adding that they did not share in the ideals of the PPP.
But Madam Donkor said she did not recognise them as executive of the party because they had not been elected.
In a sharp rebuttal, she told graphic.com.gh that the GFP did not have a national executive as claimed by the group and added that she had ran affairs virtually on her own.
She said she had never met some of the people who claimed to be national executive members of the party.
Madam Donkor said when she launched the party in Kumasi earlier this year, some young men and women led by Abankwah approached her and said they wanted to become members.
According to her, she welcomed them but realised later that they had ulterior motives.
Some of them, she said, took upon themselves certain tasks and arrogated certain titles to themselves although they had not been elected.
She said when the time was due to file nomination papers for the presidential elections, she realised that the time she had to raise the GHø10,000 filing fee was short and therefore initiated moves for a loan.
She noted that Abankwah managed to raise the money for her which she returned five days after the Electoral Commission (EC) had rejected her nomination forms.
To her utter surprise, she said, Abankwah demanded a Ghc 2,000 interest which she had no choice but to part with.
She said after the rejection of her nomination forms, she was approached by Dr Nduom and she accepted to be a member of the PPP and campaign for it but some of the individuals who now claim to have defected appeared not to be in support and rather favoured an alliance with the sole independent candidate in this year’s elections.
According to Madam Donkor, after joining the PPP, she never heard from them again until she heard that they had thrown their weight behind the CPP and added that she did not care whom they supported in the elections.
Abankwah, Boateng and Zinabu, graphic.com.gh that they disagreed with Madam Donkor’s decision to throw her weight behind the PPP.
They said they had begun campaigning vigorously for the CPP because they shared in the party’s vision.
Abankwah responded in the affirmative when asked whether he raised money for Madam Donkor or not but failed to say whether the other allegations were true or false.
Ababio said the members would return to the GFP after the elections and re-organise it for the 2016 elections.
