Police armoured vans with fully geared riot police have been stationed around these facilities for fear of the crowds that would be massing up.
The police secured the injunction to prevent the demonstration which organizers say would be ‘non violent and only to present a petition’ to the Chairman of the Electoral Commission.
According to the pressure group, they want to drum home the need for a new voter’s register which some political parties have been calling for, for some time now.
‘Let My Vote Count Alliance’ a pro NPP group has expressed concerns that the country stands at risk if it goes ahead with the current voters register.
The police on the other hand say for security reasons the pressure group can use alternative routes and meet elsewhere after which the petition can be presented to the representatives from these facilities at which they want to picket.
The demonstrators have already gathered at the Obra Sport in Accra with lots of placards with various inscriptions. The police is however leading the demonstrators through the approved routes to ensure that they do not go contrary to agreed routes.
