Freeze Frances Essiam’s suspension – Asamoah Boateng directs GCMC Board

The State Enterprises Commission (SEC) has asked the board of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC) to freeze the suspension of Frances Essiam as chief executive of the company. The decision, according to SEC, is to enable a three-member committee set up in consultation with the Ministry of Energy to look into the ongoing impasse between the Board of GCMC and Ms. Essiam. The committee has two weeks to submit its report. A letter dated May 7, 2018 signed by Stephen Asamoah Boateng said in part: “in view of the serious happenings at GCMC (that I’m also privy to), I am by this letter informing you, the Board Chairman and other Board Members that I have constituted a 3-member team to investigate the issues at Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited and report by 31st May 2018” The Board of the GCMC on Tuesday May 8 passed a unanimous resolution to suspend Chief Ms. Essiam at a crunch meeting. But Ms Essiam proved defiant to the board as she is reported to have ordered the shutdown of the Company ahead of Tuesday’s meeting.
